What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin used as placeholder text in design and publishing since the 1500s. It comes from a passage of Cicero’s De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC), cut up so that it reads like real text without distracting anyone with meaning. That lets reviewers judge typography, spacing and layout instead of the words.

Can I use lorem ipsum in commercial work?
Yes. The text is centuries old and not protected by copyright. Just remember to replace it before launch — search your project for “lorem” as a final check.
Why not use real text as a placeholder?
Readable copy pulls attention to what it says and can be mistaken for final wording. Lorem ipsum keeps the focus on layout. Once real content exists, test with that too: real headlines and names are often longer than the filler.
